Sintered Stone Stair Treads: Tread, Riser, Nosing and Installation Approval
Sintered stone stair treads require a coordinated schedule for tread depth, riser height, nosing detail, landing joints, exposed edges, substrate and piece numbering. Approve the stair plan, sections and component list before slab allocation and fabrication.

Create One Stair Component Schedule
Give every tread, riser, landing piece, side return, skirting piece and replacement component a unique mark. Use the same mark on drawings, cutting lists, inspections, labels, crates and installation records.
Link finished sizes to the available slab formats before completing the cutting layout.
Stair Components to Approve
Drawing Approval Matrix
| Drawing | Required Information | Release Output |
|---|---|---|
| Stair Plan | Flight width, stair axis, landings, walls and balustrade | Numbered component plan |
| Long Section | Treads, risers, nosings, levels and landing transitions | Approved stair profile |
| Cross Section | Substrate, stone build-up, exposed sides and wall junctions | Assembly detail |
| Nosing Detail | Profile, projection, return, joint and finish | Fabrication section |
| Landing Plan | Panel grid, vein direction, floor joints and perimeter pieces | Setting-out plan |
| Piece Schedule | Mark, size, quantity, finish, edge work and crate position | Fabrication list |
Select the Edge Construction
Mark every exposed front, side, return and landing edge. Specify straight, eased, beveled, mitered or built-up construction with a dimensioned section.
Coordinate the nosing with the sintered stone edge profile guide. Apply the selected treatment consistently at tread ends, landing edges and visible returns.
For open-sided stairs, include the exposed body color in sample approval and the fabrication inspection schedule.

Coordinate Finish, Pattern and Direction
Tread Surface
Finish code, sample reference, walking direction and project performance requirement
Vein Direction
Direction across each tread, relationship through the flight and landing orientation
Riser Sequence
Face order, rotation, repeated pattern and connection to the tread above
Use the full-body and surface-print comparison for exposed edges. Approve directional designs through the batch and pattern control process.

Verify the Stair Substrate
- Finished flight width and centerline
- Tread and riser geometry by step
- Landing levels and floor transitions
- Surface condition and accepted repairs
- Balustrade, lighting and service locations
- Wall, skirting and open-side interfaces
- Survey date, drawing revision and release status
Record the bedding and bonding system in the installation specification. Coordinate adhesive selection with the sintered stone adhesive guide.
Site Measurement Record
Flight Geometry
Overall rise, overall run, flight width, stair axis and number of steps
Individual Steps
Tread and riser dimensions, corner positions and local substrate variation
Landings
Finished levels, dimensions, joint grid, walls, doors and floor transitions
Side Conditions
Open edges, wall lines, stringers, skirting, returns and finishing limits
Fixed Elements
Balustrade posts, channels, lighting, services, access panels and equipment
Survey Identity
Project, stair number, level, survey date, drawing revision and approval status
Fabrication Release Sequence
Pre-Shipment Inspection
Check each component against its mark, drawing and approved sample. Record dimensions, diagonals, nosing geometry, exposed edges, corners, finish, pattern direction and quantity.
Use the sintered stone quality inspection checklist and arrange components in installation order before packing.
Label every piece with project, stair, flight, level, component mark, orientation and crate number.

Installation and Completion Record
| Stage | Checks | Record |
|---|---|---|
| Before Placement | Substrate, levels, component marks, access and interfaces | Area release |
| During Placement | Alignment, tread-riser relationship, joints and pattern order | Installation log |
| Interface Work | Landings, floors, walls, skirting, balustrades and lighting | Coordination sign-off |
| Completion | Finish, edges, cleanliness, protection and outstanding items | Final acceptance |

Send Stair DrawingsFrequently Asked Questions
What should a stair component schedule include?
Include each tread, riser, landing piece, side return and skirting component with its mark, finished size, finish, edge work, orientation, quantity and crate position.
How should a stair nosing be approved?
Approve a dimensioned section showing the projection, profile, joint, return, exposed finish and connection to the riser.
How are patterned stair pieces controlled?
Assign the slab face, cutting orientation and component mark to every tread and riser, then match the same sequence during packing and installation.
What should be checked before fabrication?
Check the site survey, stair geometry, substrate, finished levels, landings, wall interfaces, edge details, balustrade fixings, lighting channels and approved drawing revision.
What should be checked before shipment?
Check dimensions, nosing geometry, edge finish, pattern direction, labels, quantities, protection and crate order against the approved component schedule.
